I was reading an article the other day where they were discussing a chemical that had some dangerous side effects. This chemical was commonly used in every day care products such as shampoos, toothpaste and lotions.
The person being interviewed was asked to comment on this. He said something to the effect that there are only trace amounts in the products it’s really not anything to be concerned with.
O.K. stop right there, this is definitely a pet peeve of mine. Just take a minute to think about this.
Our skin is the largest organ on the body. It absorbs things easily and readily. Let’s look at an analogy. If I was to take a drop of acid and put it on my skin, would it burn me, or do I need to fall into a vat of acid to have it burn me? Now granted if I fall into the vat of acid the outcome will be much more severe and most likely life threatening, whereas a drop will just be a little burn and won’t cause any life threatening conditions. However, what if I am continually putting drops of acid all over me; I will eventually be covered in burns, scabs and scars. Still not necessarily life threatening but it is posing a health risk and causing unnecessary harm as the toxins from this acid will eventually build up in my system and cause who knows what kind of internal damage.
Did you ever look at nicotine patch, or see the small amount of hormone cream needed to alter your body? What you put on your skin will soak in and build up over time. Don’t let crafty marketing and pretty packaging fool you. Read the ingredients and think before you slather something all over your body. I have had people say, “Well I can’t afford all that fancy organic stuff” and I say, “Buy a container of Organic virgin coconut oil (if you want add a few drops of your favorite quality essential oil) and you have an amazing lotion at a very inexpensive cost” For more information visit www.safecosmetics.org and click on the link; what’s in your products. When I do purchase stuff I generally buy from www.CocoMichelleMag.com or www.FlourishBodyCare.com
I hope you stop by often to read more of my thoughts, opinions and tips!
I would love to hear from you, do you have any great personal care recipes or tips you would like to share?

I just started using extra virgin coconut oil as my moisturizer and I love it!
My daughter, Tiffany, swears by coconut oil with a couple drops of frankincense essential oil in it. She says it’s even erased stretch marks from pregnancy!
What about suntan lotions?
Suntan lotions can be very toxic. Check out this from Dr Mercola. http://products.mercola.com/summer-survival-kit/ He is selling theseproducts but I think the information is good.
Coconut oil is the best for practically everything!! Great article Debbie, I love hearing about the awareness of what’s in our toiletries and beauty products.
